General FAQ

Q: I don't see my city listed for traffic! Why not?
A: Our traffic partner, traffic.com, is steadily releasing traffic data for more cities. Keep checking back for updates.

Q: I found a mistake in your local listings, where can I report this?
A: Send local listing corrections to lsmobile@microsoft.com.

Q: I bought a phone with on-board GPS, but I can't seem to get it to work with Bing.
A: For various reasons, carriers will sometimes lock down the on-board GPS in a way that prevents third-party applications, such as Bing, from accessing it. To find out information about your phone, contact the place of business where it was purchased.

Windows Mobile Version

Q: Where can I use this application?
A: We're always working to expand our services into new markets, but we currently only offer support for United States, United Kingdom, France, and Italy.

Q: How do I use GPS?
A: Right now, we support external GPS units connected to your phone (usually via Bluetooth), as well as selected devices that have GPSes built in. To use one of these units, you need to set it up to talk over a serial (COM) port--see the instructions with your GPS unit--and then configure Bing client to use that COM port on the settings page. Alternatively, depending on your phone model (most PocketPC devices have this capability), you can configure your internal or external GPS to use the GPS Intermediate Driver and then configure Bing to communicate with the GPS receiver over the GPS Intermediate Driver.

Q: Is there a shortcut key to Zoom In or Out?
A: You can easily zoom in multiple times by clicking the center "Action" key. When you're in that mode, you can also click right soft key to zoom in or the left soft key to zoom out as well.

Q: Does Bing for Windows Mobile support Bluetooth headsets for the Speak feature?
A: Yes, however, Bluetooth support depends on the phone and Bluetooth headset you are using. Most phones and Bluetooth headsets will work, but some phones, like the Palm Treo 700w, are known not to work at all with Bluetooth headsets (for anything other than phone support). Phones that have the Cyberon Voice Dialer will also not work until you disable the Cyberon Voice Dialer. The Jawbone Bluetooth headset is known not to play the start listening sound when pressing the speak button. These issues are related to the respective devices, and Microsoft cannot fix these issues.

Q: What is a Collection?
A: A Collection is a grouping of points on the Earth that have something in common. For more information about Collections, visit http://www.passthepoi.com/.

Q: How do I add a Collection that I created using maps.live.com?
A: You can use the "Search for Collections" feature to find the Collection you created by its title. Once you find your Collection, select "Add to My Collections" for quick access later.
